| Les
Ecrins Massif hosts the southern most 4000m peak in
the Alps – Barre Des Ecrins – with a great
collection of slightly lower 3000m mountains around
it. The area provides everything from classic alpine
ascents of all grades to modern bolted routes on both
single and multi pitch crags, and longer modern
“sub-alpine” rock routes. If ice is your
thang, travel 10 minutes down the road to Argentiere-la-Bessee
and you’ll find two guidebooks worth of routes.

Alongside
this wide variety of climbing in a small accessible
area, you also get substantially better weather
than the northern Alps. This gives the enthusiastic
climber as much flexibility as he or she wants
– there is always something to climb in
the Ecrins.
At AlpBase we are ideally situated to take advantage
of the many options on offer, as we are situated
right in the middle of the massif, only 10 minutes
from Ailefroide. This is France’s second
center of mountaineering, and home to some world-class
bouldering – Fontainebleau in the mountains! |
