The Ecrins is France’s largest National Park
(30x larger than the Chamonix Valley), a huge and
diverse outdoor playground that offers superb conditions
12 months of the year. Bad weather days are practically
non-existent - Briançon claims 300 blue sky
days a year – so it is rare to miss a day’s
activity.
We provide a wide range of bespoke mountaineering
courses for the absolute beginner to the more experienced
outdoor activist. Our courses emphasize learning
by doing and we make sure you learn what you specifically
need to know, so you are able to improve your mountain
skills with some of our most experienced guides,
all of whom are fully qualified IFMGA.
We tend to
attract those who want a very individual service
because our courses allow you to progress at your
own pace and in accordance with your own ability.
Each program is very flexible and can be tailored
exactly to your requirements, and we can cater for
singles, couples and groups.

Jerry
Gore – Course Organiser
Jerry is a professional mountaineer with a career spanning over a quarter of
a century. He is one of Britain’s most experienced expedition climbers
with a passion for all areas of mountaineering, from Big Wall to 8,000 meter
ascents. He has achieved new routes on six continents with partners that include
Sir Chris Bonington, Steve Venables, Al Hinkes, Mick Fowler, Ian Parnell and
Kenton Cool. Jerry also brings to the mix a commission in the Royal Marines,
and 10 years as Marketing Director for Cotswold Outdoor. Jerry’s knowledge
of mountaineering, together with his work with outdoor equipment retailers and
manufacturers, has given him the relevant experience to create a strong team
of guides whose aim is to consistently deliver top quality mountain instruction.
Jerry lives and climbs year-round in Vallouise, gateway to the Ecrins Massif,
with his wife Jackie and their two daughters Beth and Lottie. |

Francois
Lombard – Chief
Guide
Francois (nicknamed Babar) was born in L’Argentiere, only 10 minutes from
AlpBase, and started climbing in the Ecrins in 1983. A real local expert! He
won the Indoor Rock Climbing World Cup in 1994 and the International Masters
of Arco (Italy) in 1995 and 1996. In the late 90’s he showed his impressive
all-round skills by winning ice competitions, culminating in overall winner of
the World Ice Series in 2000. He has climbed all over the world including expeditions
to Nepal, Russia and Peru and organises the annual bouldering meet in Ailefroide
every year. But above all we love him because he is such a nice guy to spend
a day with in the hills. |

Marie-Claire
Hourcade – Mountain
Guide
Marie-Claire was born and raised in the French Pyrenees. She started her rock
climbing career there on trad routes, learning the craft of nut and friend placement
before ever she got into the delights of sport climbing. This unique (for a French
climber anyway!) background has resulted in an impressive talent on both rock
and mixed winter routes, where she more than holds her own when climbing with
the boys. With on-sight skills up to 7c+ (E7), who can blame them! A quiet person
by nature, Marie- Claire is a great instructor because she looks and listens,
and so is able to offer perceptive advice helping people to advance quickly and
confidently. |
