What’s
On Offer:
Our Rock Improvers courses teach you how to climb better, and so give
you more confidence to tackle ridges, faces and mountains that you have
long dreamt about. Many use the course to help them progress from purely
rock climbing objectives to multi-pitch mountaineering routes. Others
want either to improve their climbing grade or make the transition from
climbing indoors to operating on real rock. Whatever your aims are,
because each course is bespoke and is designed around the individual’s
abilities and experience, we are able to focus on your particular
aspirations and help you achieve them. We work with clients of all
levels, literally from novice climbers right up to E grade climbers in
search of the extreme.
During this course we usually cover some or all of the following: Single
pitch seconding and leading; multi pitch seconding and leading;
technique sessions; safety on steep ground; training for performance;
equipment; evening climbing lectures.
By the end of the week you will have
significantly improved your level of rock climbing
as well as having visited many of the 60+ fantastic
crags in the Ecrins, and sampled some of the 500+
top quality multi-pitch alpine rock routes this region
has to offer. The Ecrins Massif is over 30 times
larger than the Chamonix Valley and from world-famous
Ceuse to the south to the Massif De Cerces to our
north, we have the greatest concentration of top
quality sport and alpine rock climbs in France. Plus
you have a range of different rock to practise your
technique on including mountain granite, limestone,
conglomerate and quartzite.
The
majority of these bolted and trad climbs are easily
accessible from AlpBase.com, located in Vallouise,
gateway to the Ecrins Massif itself. The area is
renowned for its 300 days of sunshine every year,
which means the conditions are very reliable, and
it is rare to miss a day’s climbing.

| Notes: |
1. Courses run Monday to Friday (5 guided
days) and the accommodation is available for you Sunday
to Saturday (arrival and departure days).
2. The all inclusive cost covers instruction, food, accommodation, and transport
so there is very little else that you have to pay for.
3. The maximum guided ratio on a course is 1:4. This ratio ensures that you can
progress at your own pace and in accordance with your ability. It also means
that the course is very flexible and can be tailored exactly to your requirements.
4. Once you have registered you will be sent a full equipment list but where
possible you will need to supply your own clothing, rock shoes, helmet, harness
and rucksack.
5. Participants must arrange their own cancellation and mountain rescue insurance.
Evening lectures on topics such as training techniques are available, but generally
we see the evenings as a time to relax and enjoy. After dinner there is always
an opportunity for a climbing DVD or a glass of wine on the balcony as the sun
sets on Mt Bonvoisin (3,481m.) at the head of our valley. Conversely Jerry is
more than happy to give a slide show on one of his many expeditions.
