What’s it like?
Les Deux–Alpes is France's second oldest ski resort (after Chamonix). It is a world–class resort with one of the largest ski areas and vertical drops to be found anywhere. Add to this a huge range of après-ski options and the lift–linked descent to La Grave, and you have a very special destination. Les 2 Alpes is located in the heart of the Oisans and at the foot of the Meije. From the center of the resort you can access all the trails with at most a 5-minute walk. On the glacier, reliable snow and gentle slopes provide mellow skiing at 3000 meters. Snow cannons ensure that the trail back to the resort is always open.

The ski area stretches over successive mountains moving away from the village. Served by state-of-the-art lifts, a huge gondola and an under-glacier funicula railway - both built in the mid 1980's - whisk skiers to the highest points, where skiing is available through the summer. The Vallons de la Meije offers skiing between Les 2 Alpes and La Grave. It is one of the most exciting off piste runs in Europe, covering 2150 meters (over 7,000 feet) of vertical. Open from late January, this legendary run attracts all advanced skiers, although a local guide is essential for the descent.

Summer Skiing
The summer skiing area on the Girose and Mont de Lans glaciers above Les 2 Alpes and La Grave is the largest in Europe. The summer ski area is usually open between June and September each year. In fact Les Deux Alpes (France) claims to be the capital of summer skiing “not just because of the skiing” but because is has “more activities on offer than you could possibly do in a week” including “parapenting, white water rafting, mountain biking, bungee jumping, golf, archery, horse riding, catamaran, five a side football, hiking, skateboarding, summer bob sleighing, swimming, ice skating, tennis, trail biking, adventure parks, climbing, ice caves, sight seeing, sailing, pedaloes, trailbiking, paintball, inline skating, volleyball, beach volleyball, gym and fitness, dancing, hydrospeed, canoeing, and aerobics. Something for everyone?

There is an 800-meter vertical between 2,800 and 3,600 meters, and over 200 hectares of skiable terrain. Seventeen lifts are open from 7am to 3pm to get the best of the snow conditions, including the underground funicular Dome Express. Runs range from beginner to intermediate difficulty, and the area also has a fun park with half pipe.

Events are staged on the glaciers throughout the summer season including snowboarding competitions and various training coursers in telemark and mono as well as snowboarding and alpine skiing.
